MEMBERSHIP CODE OF CONDUCT & MEMBERSHIP REQUIREMENTS
Code of Conduct and Membership Requirements
The Cascade Greater Swiss Mountain Dog Club (CGSMDC) was established out of a desire to protect and support the needs of the Greater Swiss Mountain Dog. We sponsor events where we foster a community built around the breed to learn, educate, and celebrate the Greater Swiss Mountain Dog. Our priorities are the breed, our members and to the prosperity of the CGSMDC.
I. MEMBER CONDUCT
a) Members will represent themselves in a sportsmanlike manner adhering to the AKC Code of Sportsmanship and refrain from destructive criticism regarding another's dog or personal affairs.
b) Members will be diligent in the handling of their properly restrained GSMD(s) to minimize the risk of trauma, danger, or nuisance to any human being or another animal.
c) Members will treat the Club, other members, competitors, judges, officials and spectators with courtesy and respect. This appropriate conduct will be maintained at all times including, but not limited to, at home, on internet forums, lists, social media and while traveling at lodging establishments and show/event sites.
d) Members will strive to protect the name and reputation of the Club. At Club sponsored events members will participate in an inclusive supportive manner and encourage GSMD owners within the Club’s territory to join the Club.
Members will not use Club resources for personal or private gain, nor engage in conduct antithetical to the Club's purpose and/or integrity.
f) Members will adhere to the rules and regulations of the American Kennel Club and the Greater Swiss Mountain Dog Club of American (GSMDCA), including all provisions of the GSMDCA Regional Club Guidelines.
II. MEMBERSHIP REQUIREMENTS
a) Members will share knowledge and be truthful in conveying information about dogs, families of dogs and owners of dogs for benefit of the breed.
b) Members always agree to educate the public and to honestly represent the breed. This includes disclosing genetic health problems and possible behavioral challenges within the breed.
c) While representing the Club, members agree to not solicit potential puppy homes. Individuals asking about puppy availability will be referred to the GSMDCA Breeder Classifieds.
d) Members will provide all dogs owned or in their care a healthy environment, good nutrition, and veterinary care as well as proper training that includes regular contact with people and exposure to the outside world. No member’s dog may be treated in an inhumane manner, abused, or subjected to any conditions likely to endanger the dog’s life. No member shall have more dogs than their facilities can adequately hold.
e) If a member becomes aware of the maltreatment, misuse or need for relocation of any GSMD, they will notify any or all of the following for resolution of the problem: the breeder (if known), a Club member actively involved in GSMD rescue, a member of the Board of Directors, or the appropriate authorities in their area.f) Members are encouraged to use a written contract detailing all guarantees, obligations, and expectations of sellers, buyers, receivers and providers of services. All parties should only enter into contracts that they are able and willing to comply with the agreed upon terms.
g) Members acknowledge the value of keeping breeders and buyers of their dogs informed about any health issues affecting their dog and its family.
h) Members will make use of recognized testing organizations such as but not limited to OFA to evaluate the genetic status of breeding prospects.
i) Members will not donate nor offer as prizes Greater Swiss Mountain Dogs in contests, raffles, or fundraising events, no matter how charitable.

PENALTIES
Behavior that is contradictory to the Code of Conduct may be subject to discipline per Article VI Discipline of the CGSMDC’s Constitution and Bylaws.

ACTIONS REQUIRING DISCIPLINE
- Neglect or abuse of any Dog in the care of a member documented by an investigation of an authorized humane organization.
- Suspension of AKC or GSMDCA privileges.
- Knowingly to sell, or aid and abet the sale of a Greater Swiss Mountain Dog to or through an auction, pet shop, wholesaler, broker, or agents.
